Vicent Van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who was one of the most influential artists in the history of art.

Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands into a middle-class family. He began working in an art gallery at the age of 16 and became interested in painting. However, Van Gogh did not begin to paint seriously until a few years later. After working in several art galleries and moving to England and France, he decided to devote himself entirely to painting at the age of 27.

Van Gogh was a highly productive painter, creating over 2,000 works in his short 10-year career. Despite his talent, Van Gogh was not commercially successful during his lifetime and sold only a handful of paintings. He also suffered from mental problems and was hospitalised several times. Van Gogh is known for his expressive style and his use of colour. His paintings are famous for their vibrant brushstrokes and the way they capture light and movement.

TRY SLIDING THE IMAGE

One of Van Gogh's favourite subjects was landscapes, especially those of his adopted home in France. He also painted a number of portraits, still lifes and still lifes. Some of Van Gogh's most famous works include "Sunflowers", "Starry Night" and "Self-Portrait with a Bandaged Ear".

Van Gogh is often seen as a reclusive artist, but he had a close friendship with fellow painter Paul Gauguin. The two lived together in Arles, France, for a brief period, but their friendship deteriorated and ended in an altercation in which Van Gogh cut off his own ear. Van Gogh committed suicide at the age of 37 and was buried in a small village in France. However, his work and legacy have continued to grow in popularity and recognition over time, and today he is considered one of the most important and influential artists in the history of art.
